50 Service or 50 Error
Error codes are never good, but the dreaded “50 service” is the one that most likely has the fuser to blame. Fuser malfunction (the proper way of saying “this thing ain’t work-in”) is identified by a variety of error messages starting with the number 50. Whether its 50.1 or 50.4, odds are you have a dead fuser. The codes can range from over temperature failure to warm up failure, but regardless of the symptom – the fuser is probably the cause. Much like a light bulb, the heating source for a fuser has a lifespan that is not measurable and from time to time a 50 service is the end result. Once you have left the 50 zone and moved into the error 51 area you have a scanner or toner cartridge problem and the fuser would appreciate not getting blamed.
*** 50 services can also be the result of a defective AC power module or DC controller, but most likely it is the fuser***
